It is a condition that causes loss of patches of hairs. Most of the time, disease does not extend beyond few patches, however, in some patients, multiple patches can be present.
The course of the disease is highly unpredictable, one may continue to lose hair, or the hair loss may stop.
Most common sites are the scalp and beard area but it can be present anywhere on body.
Management
- Firstly, stop the progression of the alopecia if the disease is active and also promote the regrowth of the lost hair.
- Prescription of oral medicines might be required.
- Creams and solutions like steroid creams, Minoxidil and ontact sensitizers may help regrowth of hairs.
- Intralesional injections of steroids at the site of the bald patches might be needed in most cases to help regrowth of hairs.
